The city of Bangkok nests majority of the embassies from different countries. Included in its long list is the UK Embassy in Thailand.

Spearheaded by the Ambassador of UK to Thailand, Mr. Quinton Mark Quayle, the Embassy of the United Kingdom aims to provide total assistance to all the British citizens within the jurisdiction of the Land of Smiles.

However, it must be noted that British nationals who are living in Thailand for three (3) months or more should register themselves in the UK Embassy in Bangkok in order to avail of the service as well as the assistance the embassy provides.

Embassy Departments

To serve the British citizens better, the British Embassy in Bangkok is divided into several departments:

  1. Consular Section -This section of the embassy is mainly responsible of providing assistance to UK citizens in terms of addressing personal cases such as passport applications; filing of criminal cases for victims of rape or serious assault; child abduction, and similar others.
  2. Visa Section -This unit assists the visa applications of those people who wish to enter the United Kingdom for tourism or immigration purposes.
  3. Commercial Section – This section provides assistance to British-owned businesses in Thailand. It is also responsible for attracting Thai and other foreign investors to start an investment in UK.
  4. Communication Team – This department is in charge of media relations. It is responsible for information dissemination of UK Government policies to British and Thai citizens alike.

Serivces Rendered to the British Citizens

The British Embassy in Thailand offers the following major services to its citizens residing in the Land of Smiles: a) assistance in passport applications; b) protection of British citizens from stringent Thai laws (proof of income letter, residency letter, UK Police clearance); and c) aid in resolving personal circumstances experienced by their citizens in Thailand.

For passport applications, the embassy offers assistance on both first-time applications and renewals. All transactions involving passports are done in the British Embassy in Bangkok but the same are issued and printed in Hong Kong.


Thailand citizens who wish to enter the United Kingdom can apply for UK Visas at the UK Embassy in Bangkok. The available visas include a UK Visitor Visa, UK Transit Visa, UK Business Visa, and UK Student Visa.

The British Embassy in Thailand also provides immigrant visas for Thai citizens having British Partners such as UK Fiancee Visa, UK Spouse Visa, and UK Unmarried Partner Visa.
Visa applications are coursed through the VFS Global Ltd. However, the approval still lies with the UK Border Agency.


So as to further extend the services of the British government to its citizens in Thailand, honorary consulates are located in the provinces of Chiang Mai and Pattaya. These offices serve as extensions of the embassy but offer limited services. They provide forms for visa applications which will eventually be forwarded to the British Embassy in Thailand for processing.
